Why work with MJ?

MJ began her career in insurance and financial services in 1993 when she founded Retirement Planning Group, LLC (RPG). In 1999, MJ joined New York Life (NYL), entering the exclusive NYL Nautilus Group of agents in 2006.

MJ, a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF), was the first female in the Northeast Connecticut Valley to be named a New York Life “Agent of the Year.”  In more than 20 years as an Independent Agent, she has consistently qualified for top awards from New York Life, Allianz and Aviva Life, as well as industry lifetime membership in The Million Dollar Round Table, Court of the Table, and Top of the Table, representing the top 1% of insurance advisors worldwide. In addition to her experience in individual retirement and estate planning, MJ has extensive experience in advising clients complicated business and estate conservation issues associated with expanding businesses.

In the interest of providing the best possible service, MJ works continually to stay current on financial and legal trends impacting her LGBT clients, especially in light of rapidly evolving state and federal laws governing LGBT relationships. Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Women In Insurance and Financial Services, The Society of Certified Senior Advisors, NYL PAC, Strategic Coach Entrepreneurial Program, the Macro Asset Preservation Program and the Entrepreneur Circle.

In addition to her professional efforts, MJ, a native of East Haven, Connecticut, and longtime resident of the shoreline area, has an extensive history of community involvement and charitable contributions. She works diligently to educate both the LGBT community and the greater community, offering workshops on investment, capital preservation and other financial issues. In 2009, MJ founded the MJ Petretto Foundation with a mission to support Connecticut not-for-profit organizations and build stronger communities through golf and other athletic fundraising events. Since 2009, the Foundation has contributed more than $65,000 to the spinal cord injury unit of Gaylord Spinal Cord Injury Program, VNA Parkinson’s Exercise Program and Make a Wish of Connecticut.

In October 2013, the VNA Community Healthcare presented the MJ Petretto Foundation of Guilford with a Community Partnership Award at their Harvest Breakfast Fundraiser held at Woodwinds in Branford.  The MJ Petretto Foundation was recognized for their commitment and support of the nonprofit homecare agency’s Parkinson’s Exercise, Support Group and Family Caregiver Program.
